We therefore also contacted a number of mayors in municipalities where the number of infections increased the fastest. They also complain about inadequate information, and often do a survey with GPs themselves.
The municipality where there were (relatively) the most infections in recent days is Ledegem, in West Flanders. Last week there were 12 cases, “but I don’t get anything from the people of Sciensano, except for an email from my emergency officer that they would start an investigation because we are missing out on the numbers,” said Mayor Bart Dochy (CD&V). “I think they are still starting, because I haven’t heard of it yet.”
“I do have direct contact with my GPs,” says Dochy, “and I can give all twelve names, people from the area just report that, people just call themselves.” The mayor therefore expects more from the scientific institute: “As a municipality, you should at least get the borough of your affected people.”
