Critical D66 members stir in open letter about withholding report MeToo case | Inland

The letter has now been signed by more than 150 D66 members. They show in no uncertain terms their dissatisfaction with how the party dealt with a MeToo investigation into Frans van Drimmelen last year. He was largely exonerated in that investigation, but De Volkskrant revealed this weekend that there is a confidential appendix to that report, which shows that the party man did exhibit cross-border behaviour. That appendix, and the accompanying conclusion, were never shared.

Unacceptable, according to the critical members. By failing to act, the board has greatly damaged trust between the party and party leadership on the one hand and its members and voters on the other.

Inadequate

The members find the reaction of the D66 board that it will read the reports again to see whether a different conclusion can be drawn. “In order to regain peace and confidence among the members, we call on the board to provide clarity in the short term about what happened and how the party has acted,” the letter reads.

They ask for three things: they want access to the confidential attachment of the study, anonymized. In addition, the board must come up with a new statement ‘within a week’ with the steps that the party has already taken and will take. Finally, they request ‘a meeting within three weeks where members can ask their questions and account for the board and the party leadership’.
