The chairman of the regional national-cultural autonomy of the Crimean Tatars Eyvaz Umerov proposed Turkey to recognize Crimea as Russian territory, TASS reported, quoted by BTA.

Hasan Yunal, a professor at Turkey’s Maltepe University, said earlier that Moscow and Ankara could agree on the status of Crimea if the Russian Federation recognizes Ankara, a self-proclaimed and recognized only Northern Republic of Turkey, as an independent state.

Commenting on the statement, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that “Russia’s regions will never be the subject of deals with other countries.”

“It would be right for Turkey to simply recognize Crimea as part of the Russian Federation. Just as they periodically advocate for the Crimean Tatars, the Crimean Tatars will be pleased if Turkey recognizes the will of the Crimean Tatars, and indeed today the entire Crimean Tatars. “Tatar people are happy that we have finally returned to the Russian Federation,” Umerov told TASS.

He reminded that Crimea “after the historic referendum is a legal part of the Russian Federation, both from the point of view of both domestic and international law.” “The accession of the Republic of Crimea was voluntary and supported by the absolute majority of the inhabitants of Crimea, regardless of nationality or religion,” Umerov said.
