Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The police in Offenbach have warned of fraudsters who use the fear of the corona virus for their own purposes. The mostly older victims were told by phone that a close relative had been infected and urgently needed money for the treatment, the police said on Monday. Usually amounts in the five-digit range would be requested. A 77-year-old man from Offenbach paid several thousand euros to an alleged clinician. Last Friday, a fraudster had called and pretended to be his son who was infected and could only be saved from America with an expensive syringe.
