Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Men armed with iron bars ran through the refugee accommodation in Freiburg again. This time, too, the security service had to call in the police, as the officials announced on Wednesday. The mood was aggressive. It was only on Sunday and Monday that there were riots with around 40 people in the state initial reception facility (LEA).
A police spokesman said there were some overlaps with those involved in the tumult and the riots on Sunday and Monday.
When officers arrived on Tuesday, some men fled to their rooms, police said. Accordingly, the police then searched these rooms and found iron bars and a knife. The police then took eight men between the ages of 19 and 25 into custody.
According to the investigators, around 40 people had attacked each other several times on the previous two days, some with poles, knives and other objects. At least eight people were injured. Police arrested nine suspects. With the exception of a 28-year-old, who has been in custody since Wednesday, all were released.
As a reaction to the serious riots, the police are currently permanently present on the premises of the refugee accommodation. Efforts are being made to find a solution to the situation, said the police spokesman. It was still unclear on Wednesday why it kept escalating between the residents.
