Crime – Freiburg im Breisgau:16 arrest warrants after a striking number of thefts

Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – The Freiburg police have been dealing with a noticeable accumulation of thefts since the end of last year. As prosecutors and police announced on Friday, arrest warrants were issued against 16 suspects. Some of them were sentenced in accelerated proceedings.
According to the investigators, the predominantly young men in the department stores in downtown Freiburg were primarily targeting high-quality goods, including clothing and perfume. They would also have stolen from customers and pulled cell phones or wallets out of their pockets.
According to the police, shop detectives should be distracted by the often joint action of several perpetrators. All men against whom arrest warrants were issued came from the state initial reception center (LEA) in Freiburg, a police spokesman confirmed. The investigators have now announced the frequent occurrences in order to raise public awareness.
