Saxony is Germany’s corona hotspot. Only the seven-day value shows slight relaxation. On Saturday, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 404 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week. The day before, the value was 441.3 new infections. However, this seven-day number is by far the highest value of all federal states. Across Germany it was 171 on Saturday and thus also decreased.

With a weekly value of more than 500 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, the districts of Mittelachen, the Ore Mountains, the district of Saxon Switzerland and the district of Bautzen are particularly affected in the Free State.

The first vaccine has arrived in Saxony

The first corona vaccine arrived in Saxony on Saturday. Later on Saturday morning, the first 9,750 vaccine doses for Saxony arrived in a warehouse that was not named for safety reasons. And on Saturday, the cans were to be distributed to the university hospitals in Dresden and Leipzig and the Chmnitzer Klinik, among others. Another 24,000 cans are expected on Monday.

The first vaccination in Germany took place in Saxony-Anhalt: 101-year-old Edith Kwoizalla and around 40 other residents were vaccinated against the corona virus in a senior citizen center in Halberstadt on Saturday.
