- Tom Brady: Darren Waller was convinced the NFL’s GOAT was coming to Las Vegas
- The rumor has been around for a long time
Tom Brady to the Las Vegas Raiders? Apparently that was quite an issue in 2020, at least according to Raiders tight end Darren Waller. He commented on the uncertainty of the quarterback position ahead of the 2023 season. With Las Vegas parting ways with Derek Carr, big changes are on the horizon for the franchise.
Raiders tight end Waller: Respectable sources claimed Brady to Raiders is ‘a sure thing’
Waller addressed the topic in an interview with Jeff Fedotin Forbes while addressing the old rumors that linked Tom Brady to Las Vegas when it was clear he would not be playing for the Patriots in 2020. According to the Raiders tight end, he was convinced Brady was coming to town.
“I’ve heard it from several sources that I respect and am close to,” Waller told Forbes. “They said, ‘Yeah, Brady to the Raiders was a sure thing.'”
Tom Brady: There have been rumors about a failed Raiders change for a long time
Brady famously went instead to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom he won a Super Bowl and made the playoffs three times before announcing his retirement. But it seems there was some truth to the rumors linking the legendary quarterback to Las Vegas. The Raiders eventually stuck with Carr, whose time with the team ended last week.
Back in August, UFC president Dana White claimed that a 2020 deal to bring Brady to Las Vegas was turned down at the last minute by then-Raiders coach Jon Gruden. Gruden and the Raiders parted ways midway through the following season.
Waller seems to be one of those people who believed Brady would join the Raiders, but that never came true. Nevertheless: The Brady deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, which has long been rumoured, was apparently definitely on the table in 2020.
