The date until which the seventh wave will last

Spain is immersed in the seventh wave of COVID-19 after the rebound in infections and hospitalizations this week. The data from the latest Health report confirm that, at the moment, our country is in an explosive phase characterized by the exponential growth of infections and that is reflected in the data: the accumulated incidence (AI) increased by 30% to 14 days, and 40% AI at 7 days.

There are about 400 people in the ICUs and about 10,000 beds occupied by COVID patients on the ward. The incidence stands at 800 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in those over 65, and above 1,000 in those over 80, the only age groups that are counted as vulnerable.

These figures are already close to the highs of May when the sixth wave ended and places us very far from the peak, which is expected to be reached in three or four weeks. In this way, it is expected that the month of July could be very complicated both in number of infections and in hospital saturation, especially if one takes into account that this already exists in the Emergency services of several autonomous communities.
