Covid in Italy, “now there has been a phase change, a significant burden on hospitals”

A passage of the epidemic phase in Italy. It starts like this – and a worried attack, on the day that the new infections return to exceed 5,300 – the weekly monitoring, for the period 28 September – 4 October 2020, on the situation of the pandemic of Covid in Italy, drawn up by the Ministry of Health and the Higher Institute of Health.

Monitoring also immediately indicates which element is of greatest concern: for the first time, in a long time, there are significant signs of criticality relating to the spread of the virus in our country. There is a significant load of local services that must be monitored for its potential effects on welfare services.

Of course, the government has implemented reinforced measures, but it is necessary to avoid events and initiatives at risk of aggregation in public and private places and to adopt rigorous individual behaviors with awareness (in particular physical distancing and the use of masks) in order to limit the risk of transmission to avoid further and more rapid worsening of the epidemic.

According to what was reported, the cumulative incidence in the last 14 days of 44.37 per 100,000 inhabitants (compared to 34.2 per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous period).

In the period 17 – 30 September 2020, the RT calculated on symptomatic cases equal to 1.06.

Active foci are 3,805 active outbreaks, of which 1,181 new: outbreaks are present in 104 out of 107 provinces. Most of these outbreaks continue to occur in the home setting (77.6%), while transmission in the educational and recreational context remains, for now, very limited.
