COVID deaths up 4% globally – WHO

COVID death toll rises in five WHO regions

According to the results of the previous week, the incidence rate of coronavirus decreased by almost five times, while the mortality rate increased.

During the week from February 7 to February 13, 16,097,642 people in the world became infected with coronavirus, 74,494 inhabitants of the planet died from complications of the infection. Such data on Tuesday, February 15, made public World Health Organization (WHO).

As indicated, compared with the previous week, the number of detected cases of infection decreased by 19%, while mortality increased by 4%.

Thus, the number of new cases of COVID infection increased only in the Western Pacific region (by 19%). At the same time, in the Eastern Mediterranean, America, Africa and Europe, the incidence decreased by 37%, 32%, 30% and 16%, respectively.

The number of COVID victims increased over the past week in the Eastern Mediterranean (by 38%), the Western Pacific (by 27%), Africa (by 14%), the Americas (by 5%) and Europe (by 1%). And in Southeast Asia, the mortality rate, on the contrary, decreased – by 9%.

According to the latest WHO data, 412.3 million people were infected with coronavirus and 5.8 million died from complications of the disease in the world. At the same time, over the past day, there were reports of 1.5 million cases of infection and 7351 deaths.

Recall that in Ukraine on February 14 for the first time after four weeks of an increase in the incidence of coronavirus decline was recorded.
