Covid Certificate enters into force for 3.2 million Spaniards | Europe up to date | DW

More than 3.2 million Spaniards already have the digital Covid Certificate that this Thursday (07/01/2021) enters into force in all the countries of the European Union (EU) and that allows its users to travel throughout the continent with freedom and no need to save quarantine.

It is a digital QR code that begins to work throughout the Union on the day of many trips for the summer holidays, and that can be carried on all mobile devices – also printed on paper – to demonstrate that the The certificate holder has received the COVID-19 vaccine, has a negative coronavirus -PCR or antigen- test result, or has recovered from the disease in the last six months.

The document, in force for twelve months, works for vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which for now has validated drugs from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Astrazeneca and Jannsen, but each country is free to include in it other unauthorized sera such as the Russian Sputnik V or the Chinese Sinopharm.

In Spain – which brought forward the issuance of this passport to June 7 – this certificate is processed by the autonomous communities and the Ministry of Health, although the latter only in the cases of having passed the disease or being vaccinated, not if PCR tests are presented or antigens.

The most active community in issuing certificates, according to the information provided to Efe by the different Spanish autonomous governments, is Catalonia, with 681,600; followed by Andalusia (462,934), Galicia (255,423) and Castilla y León (224,354). At the bottom are Ceuta (4,600), Melilla (5,200) and Asturias (3,426). (efe)
