In the 29th week of her pregnancy in August, Harrison, who was not vaccinated, contracted COVID-19. At first the symptoms were mild, but she suddenly felt short of breath. In Phenix City, where she lives, she was intubated and taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Birmingham, where doctors caused Lake’s birth and put Harrison on life support.
