Covid-19: What is the selective isolation enlisted by the Government – Government – Politics

This August 31, the health emergency that the Government decreed to counteract the pandemic in the country expires.

But since the virus remains active and in a good part of the cities of the country it has not even reached the peak of contagion, the National Government is looking at what measures are taken as of September 1.

In that sense, the president himself Iván Duque already gave the first stitches of what is to come. It’s called selective isolation.

The head of state said that preventive isolation has been an umbrella that has exceptions that have been gradually handled, precisely so that the country is recovering productive life.

In this sense, Duque stressed that, to the extent that a person is positive and can infect their family environment and other people, what has been considered is to move towards a selective isolation, which will focus on people who score positive, on people who may be in a possible affectation.

The president said that a call has also been made so that people who are in the nuclei of greatest vulnerability from the point of view of the lethality of the virus, as far as possible have a concept of isolation.

Specifically, the head of state said that the concept of isolation “has to change” and has to move “From a generalized isolation with exceptions to a selective isolation” and where there is “much more individual discipline and adherence to individual standards.”

That is the Government’s bet: to go from preventive isolation to selective isolation as of September 1 and, everything indicates, for several months.

Duque said that this week he will be working with experts and epidemiologists “examining the behavior of the pandemic and giving very clear signals of the processes that we hope to carry out not only in September, but in the next quarter.”

Among the strategies they contemplate is that only 20% of employees work in public sector entities.

For his part, Julián Alfredo Fernández Niño, director (e) of Epidemiology and Demography of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, pointed out that this measure includes contact tracing that “consists of finding people who had varying degrees of contact with a confirmed or suspected case of covid-19 to inform them of their exposure, promote self-isolation, assess its level of risk, verify that it has the conditions to comply with isolation and apply tests, as applicable in each case “.

“In the case of the family nucleus, being a high-risk contact, everyone should be immediately isolated without the need for testing, with the exception of those with risk factors,” he said.

It is expected that President Duque will make, between this Monday or Tuesday, the formal announcement on how the new isolation will be.

The president recalled that in some European countries there have been outbreaks of the virus, for which he said that the only way to contain them has to do with individual discipline and with the concept of “Knowing how to selectively isolate those who are positive, but also those who are more vulnerable and, obviously, moving from a concept of obligation to one of self-responsibility.”
