Covid-19: vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years will be in special places | News

Vaccination against covid-19 for children between 5 and 11 years of age will be carried out in special places, such as schools and hospitals, and not in the same centers where adults are vaccinated, reported the director of Strategic Public Health Interventions of the Ministry. of Health (Minsa), Alexis Holguín.


“They are going to be special places. They are also working hand in hand with the Minedu to vaccinate at strategic points that are going to be schools and, additionally, in some hospitals. And in the case of children with HIV they already have a special network (of places where they are attended), he noted.-

He specified that these specific points will be published in the coming days through the social networks of the Minsa, and that in these places the adult accompanying the minor will also be able to receive the vaccine.

He noted that children from 5 to 11 years of age with comorbidities will be the first to be inoculated with the covid-19 vaccine.

“These children who are at higher risk of developing severe diseases and include those with Down syndrome, with orphan or rare diseases, who have or live with people infected with HIV, children with cancer, transplants, type 1 diabetics and those with obesity”, he specified.-

He reiterated that children from 5 to 11 years old must attend accompanied by a parent, guardian or relative over 18 years of age to sign the informed consent and be able to receive the covid-19 vaccine when appropriate.

I clarify that these vaccines for children from 5 to 11 years of age from the Pfizer laboratory have not yet reached Peru and that the dose that is applied to this age group is a third of what is being applied to adults.

He said that this pediatric vaccine, which is already being applied in the United States, shows mild and minimal effects, with some pain, inflammation in the area of ​​​​the vaccine and, in some cases, fever reported.

“We also have a monitoring system for adverse effects, in case they occur. If there is something similar, you should go to health centers to follow up,” he noted.

Against the flu

At another time, Holguín pointed out that there is no problem in giving these minors the covid-19 vaccine at the same time as the influenza or human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines.

“On the subject of adverse effects, what it can give is a little fever or discomfort, nothing more,” he noted.

Holguín said that the vaccine against covid-19 for children will prevent severe effects on hospitalizations.
