COVID-19 vaccination in adolescents from 12 to 15 years old will be done by direct call of the educational establishments | Community | Guayaquil

MSP authorities indicated that to avoid crowds, each campus should be called upon

The vaccination of more than 500 adolescents between 12 and 17 years of age began yesterday at the Rumiñahui school, in the El Fortín sector, in the northwest of the city. This is one of the campuses where students are immunized as part of phase 4 of the “We Reactivate” vaccination plan.

The parents arrived there with their children from 08:00 to access the vaccination. They first had to sign a COVID-19 vaccine acceptance form so that young people can access the dose.

María, a resident of El Fortín, brought her 12-year-old daughter who is in eighth grade at that institution. She commented that it was necessary for adolescents to be vaccinated because they already want to return to study in the classroom and must be protected from the virus. “Imagine how long they locked up, they already want to see their friends, go back to study as has always been done, I agree that they get vaccinated and as soon as possible,” said the woman.

Katherine Olaya, responsible for the Epidemiological Surveillance of Zone 8, explained that on this day the age group of 12 to 15 years was vaccinated, as well as students who were 16 and 18 years old.

“There are more than 200,000 students in that age group from 12 to 15 years in Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón until October 30,” he explained.

He added that each educational unit made the call for its students, in order to vaccinate them on campus to avoid crowds. “You have to be ordered, that’s what coordination between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education is for. It must be coordinated with the summons so that everything goes well, you cannot attend if you have not been summoned ”, explained Olaya.

He said that health centers are vaccinated with the first and second doses of the four vaccines. Those who have not yet been immunized against COVID-19 can go to health centers for the first dose to get the CanSino and AstraZeneca vaccines.

They are also serving mass vaccination centers such as the Mucho Lote 1 esplanade, in the north of the city; at the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport, at the Modelo stadium, at the 25 de Julio terminal of the Metrovía and at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Guayaquil; the Durán Convention Center and the Samborondón Coliseum.
