As of midday, health authorities in seven provinces had reported 247 new COVID-19 infections nationwide, for a total of 118,034 to date in Canada. In addition, two deaths in Quebec have pushed up to 8,960 the number of Canadians who have lost their lives while carrying the virus.
The Belle Province alone had recorded more than 60% of cases, with 155 new infections. Quebec has reached the threshold of 60,000 coronavirus contaminations detected in the laboratory.
However, a Héma-Québec study published on Wednesday suggests that three times as many Quebecers may have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic. These data are also in phase with those of another study, published in Ontario, which concludes that the infected people would be four times more numerous than indicated by the official figures.
Speaking of the most populous province in the country, it increased its lead over Quebec, showering the hopes of the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, to do better than Ontario. In fact, the Ontario health authorities on Wednesday listed 86 people declared positive for SRA-CoV-2. For a third consecutive day, therefore, the number of infections recorded in Ontario was below the symbolic bar of 100 cases.
On the Atlantic side, New Brunswick announced that four Mexican seasonal workers had contracted the virus. However, they had been in preventive quarantine since their arrival in the country less than two weeks ago. Their period of isolation will be extended.
