The director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC) said today that Cape Verde is among the countries with the highest pandemic incidence rate in relation to the number of inhabitants.
“The countries with the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants are Cape Verde, Libya, Morocco, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa and Tunisia”, pointed out John Nkengasong during the weekly press conference that reports on the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic in African continent.

More than half of the doctors surveyed in a study by the Portuguese Medical Association revealed that they did not have the appropriate protective equipment to work during the declared state of emergency because of the covid-19 pandemic.

The United States has seen 968 deaths from covid-19 and 23,261 infected in the past 24 hours, Johns Hopkins University said on Wednesday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has counted 196,661 deaths and 6,626,242 cases of covid-19, according to the independent count of the American university.
Richest countries have already reserved half of future vaccines
According to the non-governmental organization Oxfam, a group of rich countries that represent 13 percent of the world population has already purchased half of the future doses of vaccine against Covid-19.
These countries include the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and Japan, which intend to guarantee the supply by several competitors, hoping that at least one of the vaccines under study will prove effective.
However, this policy could aggravate the difficulties that most of the world population will have to obtain vaccines, the report said.
This Wednesday Portugal counted three more deaths related to the covid-19 and 605 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS). Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has recorded 1,878 deaths and 65,626 cases of infection.
DGS indicates that the three deaths were recorded in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region.
37,287 contacts are under surveillance, 332 more than on Tuesday.
