Covid-19:: the BCEAO applies its minimum interest rate to stimulate growth

In 2020, Senegal officially launches its licensing cycle. Oil and gas blocks are offered to exploration companies. At the same time, the country is launching the operation of its first wind farm and is making progress on various key projects in the hydrocarbon sector. The Senegalese government and Africa Oil & Power, organizer of the conference, invite local, regional and international investors to the first annual conference “Senegal Oil & Power”, which will be held on May 27 and 28, 2020 at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio.

Supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Senegal Oil & Power 2020 will bring together all the players in the energy sector and will be the official platform for the oil, gas and electricity sector in Senegal. The conference will be accompanied by the launch of the second edition of the investment guide entitled “Africa Energy Series: Senegal 2020”, which will be published before the end of the year. James Chester, Acting CEO of the organizer Africa Oil & Power believes that: “Senegal Oil & Power and the Africa Energy Series report constitute a platform for promoting Senegal’s voice in the energy sector internationally. These initiatives also show the importance of energy in the economic emergence “of Senegal.

James Chester adds that: “Senegal is no longer a potential exploration destination, it has become a recognized oil and gas country. There are few countries in Africa capable of offering such a stable and secure business environment, with a long-term government vision and a wide variety of opportunities in the energy sector. ” Senegal Oil & Power is an event organized in Senegal with government support and national and regional opportunities, not only in oil and gas, but also across the energy value chain. The 2020 program will highlight actors and projects in all energy activities: from oil and gas exploration to the supply of local goods and services, infrastructure, financing, production and distribution of ‘electricity. The theme of the conference “A New Wave Of Investment” reflects the presidential vision of H.E.MackySall and the Senegalese ambition to develop the economy, notably through a diversified energy sector.

Since 2014, eight oil and gas discoveries have been recorded and in 2022, the first barrel of oil is expected to be produced by the Sangomar deposit. Regarding gas, the first production of liquefied natural gas should come from the Grand Tortue-Ahmeyim deposit, an offshore project of the BP group. The energy sector in Senegal should experience a very active 2020 year: the government will present oil and gas permits during an international tour as part of the 2020 license program; the Taïba Ndiaye wind farm, built by the Lekela company, will supply electricity to 2 million people from next year; and then progress will be noted in the GTA project since McDermott will finalize the manufacture of the subsea production system; and Halliburton will begin drilling and completion at the end of the year for production at Sangomar, which received the final investment decision a few weeks ago in January. Senegal Oil & Power 2020 highlights investment decisions and projects in 2020 and beyond. The conference also highlights initiatives to use gas for power generation. The neighboring countries of Senegal, that is to say Mauritania, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea will share their experiences.
