COVID-19: suspended visits to federal correctional facilities

OTTAWA – The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) announced on Saturday the suspension of public visits to inmates at all federal correctional facilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

If the CSC specifies that “at present there is no confirmed case of COVID-19” in its establishments, the federal agency will offer other options to relatives and friends of inmates to enable them stay in touch, such as video and telephone discussions.

“We remain in contact with public health authorities. We will reassess the situation regularly and provide updates as it evolves, “said CSC, which manages federal penitentiaries and other correctional facilities.

CSC has assured that its staff have the knowledge and experience to deal with infectious and respiratory diseases, in this case COVID-19.
