Former NBA star Stephon Marbury has struck an agreement with a Chinese manufacturer of protective masks and is preparing to supply 10 million to New York City, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the New York Post.

“Whatever happens, I’m from Brooklyn, the part of town where he was born,” the former basketball player and current coach of the Beijing Royal Fighters told the American newspaper. Being able to help New York is something that touches me closely and is close to my heart, ”continued the former Knicks point guard.

The agreement reached by Marbury is expected to provide masks to rescuers and hospital staff in the city, mobilized to fight the pandemic which has infected more than 121,000 people in the United States, nearly half of them in the state from New York.

In New York, as in many places around the world, doctors and health care workers face a shortage of equipment.

“I know how important it is to have masks at this time,” said Marbury, who says he got the protective gear at a reasonable price, amid shortages driving up mask prices.

According to the New York Post, the cost of each copy is $ 2.75.

Two million masks are expected to be delivered each week for a period of five weeks, the newspaper says.
