Covid-19: Portugal with three more dead and 457 more infected

Portugal recorded three more deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,564. This Sunday, according to the epidemiological bulletin issued daily by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), Portugal registered an increase of 457 cases, rising from 41,189 registered on Saturday for 4.1646.

In comparison with the data from Saturday, there is an increase of 0.2% in deaths today, while the evolution of cases of infection showed an increase of 1.1%.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, where the largest number of outbreaks has been recorded, the covid-19 pandemic reached 18,752 cases, 391 more than on Saturday.

This region currently has 45% of those infected across the country.

In mainland Portugal there was an increase in the number of infected people, with the north representing the second region with the highest growth. In this region, the DGS counts an additional 31 people infected with the new coronavirus, reaching today 17,476.

The Algarve comes in the next position in the list of regions with the highest growth in the number of infected, having registered 17 more than on Saturday, which totals 612 people infected with covid-19.

In the Center region, 14 more infected people were detected, reaching 4,094, while Alentejo added four more patients, reaching 471.

Although it was the area where the growth of infected people was less, it was in Alentejo that the third person who died of covid-19 died.

The Azores have 149 cases of infection by the new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus and 15 deaths, while Madeira has 92 people infected and remains without any registered deaths.

Of the total number of infected people in Portugal, 458 are hospitalized, one more than on Saturday, with 75 in intensive care units, five more than in the previous count.

In the distribution of cases infected by municipalities, Lisbon is the one with the highest number of cases, with 3,423 (88 more than on Saturday), followed by Sintra, with 2,564 (more 87).

In the third place of the municipalities with the most infected is Loures, with a total of 1,791 (plus 46), followed by Amadora, with 1,645 (54 more infected than on Saturday), and Vila Nova de Gaia, with 1,640 ( plus seven).

Still above a thousand cases, we count Porto, which maintained the 1,414 cases of infections, Matosinhos, which also continues with the same number registered on Saturday: 1,292; and Braga, which also maintains the previous number, totaling 1,256 patients.

The list of municipalities with more than a thousand infected also includes Gondomar, with 1,093 cases, and Odivelas, with 1,084.

Data from the DGS report indicate that, of the total deaths recorded to date, 781 are men and 783 are women.

By age group, the highest number of deaths is registered among people aged 80 or over (1,048), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 (301).

Among the population aged between 60 and 69 years, there are 143 deaths, in addition to 50 deaths among people aged between 50 and 59 years.

Between 40 and 49 years old there were 18 deaths, two between 30 and 39 years old and two between 20 and 29 years old.

In global terms, the age group most affected by the disease is 40 to 49 years old (6,932), followed by the age group between 30 and 39 years old (6,626) and people aged between 50 and 59 years old (6,564) ).

A total of 1,511 people are awaiting laboratory test results and 31,299 are under surveillance by health authorities.

Since January 1, Portugal has registered 376,815 suspected cases, according to the bulletin, stating that 27,066 recovered, representing 202 more than on Saturday.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 498,000 deaths and infected more than 10 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
