COVID-19 kills director of “Moscow does not believe in tears”

Russian director Vladimir Menshov has died, RIA Novosti reports. The cause of death was an infection caused by COVID-19.

The sad news was announced by Menshov’s family and the Mosfilm film studio. The director is 81 years old.

Vladimir Menshov was born on September 17, 1939. He graduated from school in the city of Arkhangelsk and entered the Moscow Institute of Cinematography. In 1965 he continued his training as a director. He made his feature film debut with the leading role in Alexei Sakharov’s drama “A Man in His Place” (1972). He won the love of the audience with his films and directing, and especially with his 1979 film “Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears.” In 1981, the film won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
