Covid-19: In Quebec, the isolation period for confirmed cases reduced to 10 days

In Quebec, the isolation period for confirmed cases of Covid-19 has been reduced to 10 days from 14 previously, the Ministry of Health announced on Friday.

Taken in consultation with the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec, this decision is explained by the development of knowledge on the transmission and duration of contagiousness of Covid-19, assures the ministry.

Thus, for the majority of the population, the lifting of isolation is now possible 10 days after the appearance of the first symptoms or, if the person is asymptomatic, 10 days after the date of the positive test for Covid-19, explains the ministry while specifying that it is no longer necessary to have fever for at least 48 hours for the isolation to be lifted.

However, patients who continue to display symptoms other than cough and loss of smell will continue to isolate themselves, the same source adds.

Note that this decision applies only to confirmed cases of Covid-19. People who have been in contact with confirmed cases and travelers arriving from overseas must continue to adhere to a 14-day quarantine period.
