Before Christmas, the Covid testing centers were stormed in New Aquitaine. L’Regional health agency identifies 156 499 tests between December 14 and 20, 2020.
Indeed, in week 51, the screening rate increased sharply with 2,600 tests performed per 100,000 inhabitants against 1,800 per 100,000 the previous week.
At the same time, we note a drop in the positivity rate in the region (-3.3% in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and -2.8% in Gironde).
For the ARS, this decrease can be explained by the influx into screening centers of asymptomatic people wishing to be screened before the Christmas holidays.
More than 5,000 new cases in one week
In the end, the number of new patients remains the same compared to week 49 and 50 with 5,100 new confirmed cases in New Aquitaine.
Likewise, the incidence rate has been stable for four weeks with 85.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This trend is observed in all age groups.
The epidemic is no longer slowing down in New Aquitaine and health professionals fear an acceleration in the circulation of the virus during the end of the year celebrations.
The day before Christmas, 321 fewer sick than December 1
Benjamin Clouzeau, resuscitation doctor from Bordeaux University Hospital, believes that these festive meetings will be “a nest of contamination”.

For the moment, the latest figures – communicated on December 23 – are rather reassuring with 1,181 Covid patients hospitalized in New Aquitaine (including 153 in intensive care), against 1502 on December 1.
