Covid-19. In Finistère, the incidence rate has doubled

In the Finistère, we have been witnessing, since the beginning of the month, a consequent progression of the Covid-19. The prefect, Philippe Mahé, revealed some figures on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Between September 30 and November 5, the number of cases confirmed since the start of the crisis, in February, rose from 2,630 to 6,946. brings the incidence rate to 182. It has doubled in one month.

“This shows the rapid circulation of the virus, notes Philippe Mahé. The department seemed spared during the first confinement. This is no longer the case. Growth is rapid in all territories, including rural areas. “

AT Brest, for example, the incidence rate is currently 212. It has doubled in three weeks. The number of deaths from Covid-19 in Finistère was 48 at the end of August. He is 60 today.

28 intensive care patients

The occupancy rate of intensive care hospital beds is 44.2% in the department. There are currently 28 people in intensive care in Finistère, including 12 people who come from the south-eastern regions. Of the 16 patients from the intensive care unit, two thirds are hospitalized in Brest.

The department has 20 clusters: six in schools and universities, two in Ehpad (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly people), two in establishments for disabled people, three in professional environments, five in the private sphere and two in health establishments.

Currently, 20,000 tests per week are carried out against 10,000 three weeks ago. “New screening centers will open in the Brest conurbation and in the south of the department, as needed”, says the prefect. In addition, antigenic tests will be deployed in the coming days. “Initially, they will be reserved for nursing homes and retirement homes”, specifies Jean-Paul Mongeat, director of the ARS in Finistère.

More frequent checks

The Prefect recalls the importance of wearing a mask in order to limit the spread of the virus. It is compulsory in about twenty municipalities and especially in the densest areas, comprising 45% of the total population. Philippe Mahé insists that travel must be reduced to the strict minimum. Gatherings, demonstrations or activities of more than six people are prohibited on public roads.

The checks of certificates will multiply these days in stations, town centers and on the roads, in order to verify the certificates.
