“I also believed in conspiracy theories about Covid-19 a month ago, until I got sick myself,” says Ligita Linina, who has contracted the coronavirus and will finally be able to return to work this week. The woman was also infected at work and lay in the Infectious Diseases Center for four days. Now she has changed her mind and calls everyone to be responsible for herself and her fellow human beings.

Ligita Liniņa became infected with the coronavirus on September 21 at the workplace – the Social Services Day Center “Generations” founded by the Diaconal Center of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The woman admits that until recently she was among those who do not believe that she can get sick.

“Until September 21, I believed in conspiracy theories. I believe in church representatives who are the authorities they say. It’s just logical. And I want to emphasize that this virus is real. If I had not encountered that disease myself, believing in the Lord that He would protect us and that they were deception or conspiracy theory, I would never have believed that it is. But I stand before you and talk about the pain I went through and how we threaten our fellow human beings by disobeying the government and power, ”says Ligita.

According to infectologists,

Ligita was infected by two children, whose mother had Covid-19, but the children continued to visit the day center.

Employees did not know that the woman had the contagious coronavirus. The infection affected four day center staff.

Ligita’s symptoms appeared the day after contact with the children of the affected client. “22. physically in September I could not get out of bed. I had a terrible headache. I still have weight, I couldn’t stand up straight. I know the way from the bed to the toilet, but I had to measure it with my eyes, and then the stars jumped while walking, ”Ligita recalls.

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, fever. There was no sore throat, no runny nose. But pronounced muscle weakness. Ligita Liniņa found out about the disease with Covid-19 only in the hospital’s admission department, which she went to after consulting a family doctor. The doctor suspected the caecum.

“When I had this virus positive, the staff all over the room, one sister … I didn’t blame her, but she shouted: Ligita Liniņa, you have a coronavirus. I wasn’t ready for that, “says Ligita.

Ligita has been lying in the Infectious Diseases Center for four days.

The doctors then released her home to her husband and minor daughter. “There was no place to isolate. In that ignorance, we decided by telephone that I would drive home and my child’s room would be my room. When everyone returns, mouth bandages, separate towels, separate dishes, a meeting, disinfection, ”says the woman with the virus.

The husband did not get sick with his daughter, Ligita Liniņa herself has a negative Covid-19 test. You will be able to return to work this week. However, even after the end of the illness, its consequences are felt – rapid fatigue, weakness.

“Before that, my trainer was a ladder. I live in a nine-storey house, and nine floors – this is my exercise machine, I don’t go to the apartment, but I climb and then land on the third floor, going back. Now I’m on the third floor … I’m red. I’m tired.

Today I am a living testimony that two meters, a bandage on the mouth, and not a bandage on the chin, but on the nose and mouth, is our answer. We will be selfless, ”says Ligita.

That is all we can do to protect ourselves and others. And Ligita Liniņa calls not to challenge the virus, because it can affect each of us.
