It will be available on the market for everyone from the end of October at a price between 25 and 30 euros, in pharmacies and online, the first bulb in the world able to sanitize a room from coronavirus, in a certified way. The technology – Italian – is called Biovitae, developed in 2016 by P&P and Nextsense, and tested by the scientific laboratory of the Celio military polyclinic. Technology is registered with the Ministry of Health as a Class I Medical Device and is already operational in some hospitals e airports. But its applicability could of course change our approach to schools e supermarkets, public transport and private homes. “It is the most effective sanitation system that exists in the presence of living beings. With a disinfectant passed on a table: how you touch it is all in vain. With this technology, sanitation is continuous and always harmless “, explains the president and CEO of P&P, Mauro Pantaleo, which holds the patent of the light bulb.
“A totally safe technology”
“It is a LED completely devoid of ultraviolet rays and capable of emanating a very pleasant natural white light and at the same time killing any bacteria and viruses, including Covid-19, in a few moments, without any risk for humans”.
An environment too sterile?
“No. Sanitizing means lower viral or bacteriological load, do not eliminate it. An aseptic environment, excessively disinfected, can be dangerous for people in the long run because it damages the immune system. But a room lit with this new technology is not an aseptic room ”, they explain to me again from P&P.
The interest of schools
“We have just started spreading the news and already many are contacting us principals, university e companies. We are in the process of installing these lights in hospitals, hotels and transportation. At the moment we can install a lighting system of this type in 40-50 days, but we are already thinking about growing, in order to answer a question that we imagine is growing fast. Even before the coronavirus, a famous meat processing consortium, La Granda, installed our system. We imagine that many others will be interested, because as we have seen, microorganisms spread particularly fast and dangerously where there is raw meat (see Wuhan market or European slaughterhouses). Pilot pre-installations are already active at Montevergine Clinic, in the province of Avellino et al First Aid at the Fiumicino airport, but also in some high schools In southern Italy”.
How does it work
The luminous frequencies emitted by the LED produce a continuous sanitizing action: the light emitted through its electromagnetic waves separates the water molecules present in microorganisms in two of viruses and bacteria, creating damage that prevents them from reproducing. All this also happens with Covid, as can be seen well in the image below. From the outcome of the study conducted at Celio, published in July, the light bulb eliminates Covid at 99.83%.
Last July 2nd the latest recognition came to this technology from the UN, which awarded Biovitae as the best global innovation in the health field in the fight against Covid-19.
