Covid-19: France records 12,148 cases and 48 deaths in the last 24 hours – News

The index of positivity in diagnostic tests is now at 7.7%, the Public Health Agency announced today on its online portal.

In hospitals, 4,058 people were hospitalized due to the new coronavirus in the last seven days, of which 835 were in Intensive Care Units.

Health officials added that there are 1,246 active sources of contagion under investigation, 93 of which have appeared in the past 24 hours, and 255 of which are in homes.

Of the 101 departments in the country, 66 are in a highly vulnerable situation.

French Health Minister Olivier Véran admitted on Thursday that the country is experiencing a phase of worsening circulation of the virus, which puts the health system under pressure.

The executive will decide during the weekend whether to place Paris as a maximum alert zone, which may imply the total closure of bars and restaurants.

The situation in Lille, Lyon, Grenoble, Toulouse and Saint-Étienne is equally worrying and, if it does not improve, these cities will also be included in that classification.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million deaths and more than 34.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
