The daily infection rate in Europe has increased by 60 percent since the summer.


The number of infections and Covid-19-reported deaths is on the rise in Europe, according to an overview conducted by the news agency AFP.

In the last week alone, just over 1.6 million new cases have been registered in Europe, or 239,000 daily new cases of infection, which is an increase of 18 per cent from the previous week.

This is an increase of as much as 60 percent from August and September, when there were about 150,000 new daily cases of infection in Europe.

As many as 42 countries in Europe have experienced an increase in the number of cases in the last week. Ukraine, Hungary and Poland are worst affected by new cases of infection overall.

Europe now has 55 percent of all new registered cases of infection worldwide, according to AFP.

Number of deaths on the rise

The number of covid-related deaths is also on the rise in Europe. In recent days, an average of 3120 daily deaths have been registered. This is an increase of 16 percent from the previous week.

This is the first time since May that the number of daily covid deaths in Europe has exceeded 3,000. year.

Russia, Ukraine and Romania have registered the highest number of deaths on the continent.

100 in hospitals in Norway

In Norway, the number of infections is also on the rise. On Monday, 1149 positive new cases were registered in Norway. On Tuesday, however, the number was down to 388 positive cases, according to statistics from the National Institute of Public Health.

On Wednesday it is 101 people who are hospitalized, of which 30 are admitted to the intensive care unit.

Chief physician at the National Institute of Public Health, Preben Aavitsland, writes Twitter Wednesday morning that it is mainly unvaccinated middle-aged and elderly people, as well as elderly vaccinated, who are admitted to hospital for covid-19.

160 children have been admitted

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health states that a total of 160 children and young people have been hospitalized due to covid-19 in the period March to 2020 to October in 2021. A total of 5,200 adults have been hospitalized in the same period.

– The population under the age of 18 has had the lowest risk of hospitalization throughout the pandemic, says NIPH researcher, professor and pediatrician Ketil Størdal, in a statement Tuesday.

“In the age group under 18, 2-3 out of 1,000 infected have been admitted due to acute infection or complications afterwards,” writes the National Institute of Public Health.

In Norway, 900 covid deaths have been registered so far in the pandemic.

On Wednesday afternoon, Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol (Labor Party) announced that it may be relevant to reintroduce national and local measures if the infection continues to increase.
