Covid-19. Almost half of the Portuguese are still afraid to eat in restaurants, says survey

The new normal has not been favorable to the catering sector. After a month of reopening, almost 50% of Portuguese people still avoid eating out – for fear of the disease, but also for economic reasons, reveals the last barometer of Intercampus, published this Monday by “Jornal de Negócios” and “Correio da Manhã”.

According to the survey, the percentage of Portuguese who intend to return to restaurants soon amounts to 48%. However, more than 41% of respondents do not expect to do so; 10.7% do not know or do not respond.

To justify this decision, almost half of the respondents (48%) invoke the fear of contagion, while 44% admit that they do not intend to eat out for economic reasons.

Since the government gave the green light to reopen the restaurant, only 39% of respondents chose to eat outside the home. The overwhelming majority, 60%, have not yet returned.

At the regional level, there are other trends: 50% of respondents who live in the Algarve attended the restoration after the lack of definition, a figure that compares with 44% in the Lisbon region. In the Centro region, only 34.7% returned to restaurant tables.
