Covid-19 / Africa: African airlines asphyxiated

According to the Iata (International Air Transport Association), the Covid-19 epidemic will make African airlines lose more than 35 billion euros this year.

Pessimistic forecasts already issued by Iata before the pandemic, estimating losses of around 175 million euros for the current year due to operating costs twice as high as in the rest of the world.

But the transport crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic has also passed through and the bill will be even heavier for African companies which could lose more than 35 billion euros over the whole of 2020. No region of the world is today spared the consequences of the epidemic. Iata projects up to 100 billion euros in losses for airlines worldwide.
