Covid-19: 571 more dead and 30,026 infected in 24 hours in Brazil – News

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health, the possible relationship of 2,374 deaths with the disease caused by the new coronavirus is still being investigated.

Regarding the number of recovered, 4,797,872 people diagnosed have already cured the disease in Brazil, a country with about 212 million inhabitants. The number of infected patients who are under medical supervision amounts to 399,313.

São Paulo, the richest and most populous state in the country, but also the focus of the pandemic in Brazil, concentrates 1,083,641 cases of infection, followed by Bahia (342,526), Minas Gerais (345,188) and Rio de Janeiro (296,797).

The list of federative units with the most deaths is led by São Paulo (38,608), Rio de Janeiro (20,115), Ceará (9,244) and Minas Gerais (8,686), respectively.

Several Brazilian opposition parties filed a lawsuit today at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) asking the Government, chaired by Jair Bolsonaro, to present, within 30 days, their plans on vaccines and medicines against the new coronavirus.

The document, signed by the Workers’ Party (PT), Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) and Citizenship, also asks the executive, with “scientific security”, be “obliged to carry out all the necessary administrative procedures to (…) arrange for the purchase of vaccines and drugs that are admitted and approved by the Health Surveillance Agency”.

The action brought by the opposition comes after Jair Bolsonaro disallowed his Minister of Health, through social media, by vetoing the purchase of the “Coronavac” vaccine, developed by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, in partnership with Instituto Butantan, in São Paulo, arguing that the immunizer had not even passed the clinical testing phase.

The refusal of the Brazilian head of state contrasts with another agreement – signed by his government with the University of Oxford and with the laboratory AstraZeneca – for the purchase of 100 million doses of the vaccine, which both institutions develop and which is in the same phase of studies than the Sinovac immunizer.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 41.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
