COVID-19⟩ Experts have more public confidence than politicians – Society and politics – News

In the survey, respondents were asked to write down someone they say they trust the most. 20.2% of people chose rebels, but 9.7% chose Perevoschikov.

In third place are doctors, doctors, epidemiologists and scientists in general, without distinguishing any individual personality. This choice was expressed by 5.3% of respondents.

Pēteris Apinis is in fourth place with 4.4%, who has stood out both with the criticism of the government, especially the Ministry of Health in the context of Covid-19, and with publication of false information.

He is followed by Ilze Ņķķele, who was marked by 4.3%, while the head of the government Krišjānis Kariņš – 2.5%. One of the most active critics of the government, Aldi Gobzemu, who also stood out with his peculiar expressions about Covid-19, was indicated by 1% of respondents.

20.7% have indicated that they do not trust anyone.

When calling for an evaluation of the work of officials, the highest evaluation was obtained by Perevoščikovs, followed by Dumpis and Liene Cipule, the head of the Emergency Medical Service (NPMD).

They are followed by Kariņš, who, although assessed much more negatively, is the only politician whose balance has been positive, ie more respondents have assessed it positively rather than negatively.

This is followed by Vinkele and President Egils Levits. The society has rated the work of the Minister of Finance Reira, the Minister of Education Šuplinskas and the Minister of Welfare Petraviča the most negatively.

When evaluating the work of institutions, the population trusts the specialists from NMPD and SPKC the most. Then the MoD follows, but the Cabinet of Ministers and the Saeima take the last places. Compared to the spring data, the layout is the same, but public confidence in all these institutions has declined. The government is losing its position a little faster than the others.

As LTV explained to the experts, this is more due to ill-considered initiatives in the context of next year’s budget than to mistakes in the fight against Covid-19.

“Even if the men in power and the Minister of Finance, the government, think they have something good in mind, it must be borne in mind that even in times of peace, part of society feels insecure.

This is less true for the public sector, where a solid salary is paid each month. But in the private sector it looks different. Now we still have a plague, Covids, a great deal of uncertainty – will there be a job or not? Companies will go bankrupt, will not go bankrupt? And in this time of uncertainty to start opening up the tax debate, begin to scare people, it is very unreasonable. There is no doubt that this was one very important aspect, which is why the trust in the government with Covid is the way she is, “Arnis Kaktins, the head of SKDS, explained to LTV.

RSU associate professor, philosopher Vents Sīlis LTV pointed out that the number of cases and deaths in Latvia is extremely low, which is due to the Latvian medical care system.

“Basically, the current situation in Latvia is a direct result of the work of doctors. The current government can thank its doctors for their existence, for whom they again did not have the funds to increase their salaries.

The government is more interested in looking good in its own eyes. Strangely, they care more about saying that we are doing what we can than about actually doing something. This could be felt especially in the way taxes were raised and in the treatment of cultural workers, whose income suffers even more, “said Sīlis.

When evaluating the work of the government, 68.2% evaluated it negatively, 20.4% positively, but 11.4% could not provide it.
