Court threatens to close Belgian depots PostNL and GLS | Inland

Although PostNL and GLS are already being prosecuted for possible structural social fraud at their parcel deliverers, new checks have revealed a number of infringements at their couriers. That is what public prosecutor Gianni Reale of the Mechelen labor inspectorate says today in De Tijd. “If during subsequent checks at GLS and PostNL, violations are found regarding undeclared work and the corona rules, my office will consider having the depots sealed, which almost corresponds to a closure.”

At the beginning of May, it became known that the Mechelen labor inspectorate is prosecuting PostNL and GLS with the subcontractors with whom they would conclude ‘strangle contracts’ and where the drivers would have to work in poor conditions and be underpaid.

This week another check was made at the GLS depot in Puurs, the labor inspectorate confirms. 76 couriers and 26 courier companies working as subcontractors for GLS were checked. Nearly half of the subcontractors (12) have been found guilty of violations such as undeclared work, failure to present employment contracts, illegal employment and violations of unemployment rules.

According to the labor inspectorate, a recent check at PostNL also showed that about half of the checked cases were not in order. The auditor has therefore issued 14 additional subpoenas against PostNL and more will follow, it says.

The labor inspectorate threatens with a judicial sealing of the depots if it continues like this.
No one at GLS was available for comment. PostNL indicated that it is fully cooperating with the investigation, but would not comment at this time.
