Munich (AP) – An application against the Qatar sponsorship of FC Bayern Munich will not be voted on at the annual general meeting of the German record champions.
Just a few hours before the meeting in the Munich Audi Dome, which was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., the 13th Civil Chamber of the District Court of Munich I rejected “the immediate appeal against the decision of the Munich District Court” for “an addition to the agenda regarding sponsorship by Qatar Airlines”.
FC Bayern is therefore not obliged to “advise on further sponsorship by Qatar Airlines” at the upcoming general meeting, as the court announced on request.
As a justification, the regional court stated “that the addition to the agenda was rejected because the general meeting is not responsible for the deliberation and resolution referred to in accordance with the association’s articles of association”. Within the structure of the association, the management and thus also the issue of sponsoring for the soccer field are exempted from the responsibility of the executive committee and thus the responsibility of the general assembly through the association’s statutes. The decision of the regional court (Az. 13 T 15372/21) is binding.
Bayern member and initiator Michael Ott wanted to get the issue addressed at the meeting. He announced that he would “try a spontaneous proposal” at the meeting. “All is not lost yet,” wrote Ott on Twitter. The Qatar issue could at least be addressed in contributions from members. Numerous Bayern fans are bothered by the high-value partnership with the Qatari airline because of the controversial human rights issue in the host country of the next soccer World Cup. The club is said to put pressure on FC Bayern AG that the million dollar contract, which runs until 2023, is terminated and not extended.
