The Democrat Joe Biden has won the White House race after almost all of the votes have been counted. Last Saturday he secured the 20 electorate from Pennsylvania, cracking the 270 electoral mark necessary for victory. Until the very end, the count was extremely exciting. This is the current status of the count:

Pennsylvania (20 voters): Biden wins

Joe Biden had only taken over the lead in Pennsylvania last Friday. Since then, he has continued to expand his lead over Donald Trump – mainly thanks to the voices from the metropolitan areas of the state such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Around noon on Saturday last weekend, the US media decided in their surveys: Biden won Pennsylvania and thus the US election.

Nevada (6 voters): Biden unassailable

The 77-year-old Biden has also secured victory in the state of Nevada, according to unanimous predictions by the AP news agency and the TV broadcaster Fox. That brings him six more electorates and improves his position in the foreseeable legal battle against the incumbent Trump for the election result.

Georgia (16 voters): Biden wins just ahead of Trump

According to the broadcasters CNN and ABC on Friday, Biden also wins the conservative southern state and thus secures a clear majority of a total of 306 voters nationwide.

It is true that a recounting of all ballot papers began on Friday in Georgia because of the tight election results; But Biden has a lead of more than 14,000 votes. It is almost impossible that this will change fundamentally with a recount. In Georgia, Bill Clinton was the last Democratic candidate to win in 1992.

North Carolina (15 voters): Narrow head start for Trump

In North Carolina, Trump wins by over one percent over Biden, according to the US media. He thus secures the state’s 15 electorate.

Arizona (11 voters): US media see Biden as a sure winner

According to calculations, the AP news agency and the TV broadcaster Fox News consider a Biden victory in the state of Arizona to be certain. Recently, however, Trump was able to catch up in the important state. Biden’s lead was only less than 20,000 votes – it was once more than 50,000. The state provides eleven electors.

Alaska (3 Electors): Safe Bank for Incumbent Trump

In Alaska, Trump is clearly winning, according to the US media. According to CNN, he has a lead of over ten percent. The state awards three electors.

In these states too, the choice has already been made

Trump has these US states for sure (the number of voters per state in brackets): Texas (38), Florida (29), Indiana (11), Iowa (6), South Carolina (9), Oklahoma (7), Alabama (9), Missouri (10), Arkansas (6), Ohio (18), West Virginia (5), Tennessee (11), Mississippi (6), Kentucky (8), Louisiana (8) Wyoming (3), North Dakota (3), South Dakota (3), Nebraska (4), Kansas (6), Utah (6), Idaho (4), Alaska (3), und Montana (3).

A total of 213 voters.

Biden has these US states for sure: New Mexiko (5), Hawaii (4), New York (29), Kalifornien (55), Washington (12), Minnesota (10), Maine (3), Oregon (7), Vermont (3), Delaware (3), Maryland (10), Virginia (13), Massachusetts (11), Connecticut (7), New Jersey (14), Illinois (20), Rhode Island (4), New Hampshire (4), Nebraska (1), Colorado (9), Michigan (16), Wisconsin (10) und die Bundeshauptstadt Washington D.C.(3).

A total of 253 voters.

In the United States, the president is not elected directly by the people, but by 538 electoral men and women. Each state has a certain number of them according to population size. The candidate with the most votes in the state basically registers all of the state’s electorate for himself. Exception: In Maine and Nebraska, the votes of the electorate are divided according to majorities in the constituencies. The overall winner of the state receives two more votes. In Maine, Trump won an additional electorate, and Biden won another one in Nebraska.

Democrats or Republicans – who will get the majority in Congress?

On November 3rd, not only the US President was elected, but also the entire House of Representatives and parts of the Senate. The Democrats were able to defend their majority in the House of Representatives. So far, they held 232 of the 435 seats in the Congress Chamber, which was completely up for voting in the election.

These are the current projections for the race for the House of Representatives:

The 435 members of the House of Representatives each represent a constituency and are directly elected every two years. The survey shown reflects the trends in the electoral districts.

The fight for the Senate will apparently only be decided in January

Only two runoff elections in the state of Georgia in early January are expected to determine the majority in the US Senate for the next two years. Even the Republican Senator David Purdue and his Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff could not decide their races in the first ballot, as the AP news agency reported on Saturday night on the basis of vote counts and voter surveys.

In addition to the two runoff elections in Georgia, the results for two seats in Alaska and North Carolina are still pending – but the previous Republican senators are in the lead there. If the races work in their favor, the Republicans would advance to 50 seats.

Here are the current projections:

The Senate consists of 100 senators. Each state has two seats. In the states that have to award a mandate, it is decided by majority vote. The survey values shown reflect the trends in the states.
