Counterfeit 50 euro notes seized by Biarritz police

Counterfeit money is currently circulating in the Basque country. The Biarritz police have just provided proof of this by arresting a 23-year-old young man in a supermarket in Hendaye, while he was trying to sell a few tickets. During the search carried out at his home in Anglet, the police got their hands on numerous fake clippings “average bill” according to investigators. A total of 58 counterfeit banknotes were seized. Placed in police custody, the young man, who has converted to the sale of cars since his release from prison, says he himself was the victim of a scammer. He was released but the investigation is continuing.

The case began on Thursday January 13, 2020. A couple from Bayonne went to the Biarritz casino. The cashier realizes that the tickets they want to change to go play are fake. The police are alerted. The two 18-year-olds were arrested and taken into custody. They explain that they sold a mobile phone and that the transaction took place with cash. They will give the description of the buyer, who will ultimately turn out to be the individual arrested in Hendaye. Exonerated, the two young people were released. Biarritz police are warning traders, asking them to be vigilant about the current circulation of this counterfeit money.
