Côte d’Ivoire-AIP / International / COVID-19: The High Authority for Health calls to resume vaccinations in France

Abidjan, June 17, 2020 (AIP) – The High Authority for Health (HAS) called on Tuesday to resume the vaccinations that have not taken place because of the COVID-19 containment in France.

This call concerns both infants and “adults who have chronic diseases, particular vulnerabilities”, explained infectious disease specialist Elisabeth Bouvet, president of the technical commission on vaccinations of the HAS, cited by the site francetvinfo.fr.

For children, “the catch-up which takes place from May 11 [date du début du déconfinement] is insufficient ”, reports Elisabeth Bouvet. “The deficit remains significant for measles, with the risk of seeing the resurgence of epidemics and of losing the renewed vaccination that had apparently succeeded in obtaining”, fears the infectious disease specialist.

The High Authority for Health estimates “at 44,000 the number of infants aged between three and 18 months” who have not received vaccines against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis, meningitis due to the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae. type b and hepatitis B.

The High Authority of Health recommended, at the beginning of April, to maintain all the compulsory vaccinations of infants, those recommended beyond two years which can be deferred until the lifting of confinement. The vaccines not carried out over the entire eight weeks of confinement, and therefore to catch up, concern 90,000 people of all ages for the anti-papillomavirus vaccines, 123,000 for the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) and 450,000 for the vaccines tetanus drugs intended for reminders of children (except infants), adolescents and adults.
