Appointment of a commissioner for the use of appropriations and the setting of rules to address everyone problems related to the spread of Coronavirus. as required by the state of emergency decreed by the government which entrusts the management of the matter to Civil Protection. Angelo Borrelli, current head of Civil Protection, has been appointed as commissioner: he is responsible for managing the 5 million that the government has decided to allocate to face the first phase of the emergency. The rules concern the checks to be carried out at airports, the alert for the local health authorities, the possible strengthening of the police forces for checks, the rules of conduct in case of illness.

Airports
The order establishes the duration of the closure of flights to and from China and any other prohibitions related to air traffic. It establishes the rules to be followed when passengers from China arrive, but also the protocol to be followed for those making intermediate stops. Areas are identified inside the terminals where the first screening will be done – temperature measurement, visits in case of flu symptoms – and then the destination of those who present a suspicious situation.

Hospitals
The civil protection ordinance provides for an alert for all Regions and Local Health Authorities that will have to identify the hospitals that will become the garrison for any critical situations. A sort of collection center where you can find “dedicated” departments if the current situation worsens. With the peak of flu expected for the next few days, in fact, it is possible that the number of people to be hospitalized for tests may increase. Spallanzani in Rome remains the center for bringing the sick together and for carrying out the analysis of verification of suspected cases.

Masks
The state of emergency allows to streamline the procedures by skipping a series of steps for the purchase and procurement of the material. And therefore – if necessary – to supply with an emergency procedure all the structures that will need masks, syringes and all the rest of the material necessary to manage the situation. This also applies to the stocks of medicines which must always be at the highest level.

The words of the minister
The seriousness of the situation had been made clear as early as Thursday when health minister Roberto Speranza announced that the coronavirus emergency would be treated with measures equivalent to a cholera and plague epidemic.
