Coronavirus: Swiss closes lounges in Zurich and Geneva

Because of the Corona crisis, the Swiss airline had to reduce its capacity significantly. Swiss is now also closing lounges.

Swiss celebrated the opening last November. The new Alpine Lounge in Terminal A at Zurich Airport has since offered mountain hut charm and seasonal Swiss dishes on 500 square meters. But now the airline had to close its quaint waiting area for frequent flyers.

As a spokesman for Swiss aeroTELEGRAPH confirms, the Swiss Alpine Lounge will be closed from Wednesday (March 11th) until the end of April. The reason for this is the lower passenger volume due to the corona crisis. The number of business travelers in particular is falling sharply because many companies no longer allow travel for the time being.

Geneva also affected

Lufthansa and all of its subsidiaries – including Swiss – had to cancel up to 50 percent of the flights. Dozens of aircraft are no longer needed. The airlines also have to save in other places. Among other things, positions are no longer filled and the staff was asked to take unpaid leave.

At Swiss, the Alpine Lounge is not closed. The Lufthansa subsidiary also closes its waiting rooms at Gates D in Zurich. The Senator Lounge in the intercontinental area of Dock E has recently closed at 1.30 p.m., the Business Center Lounge Center in Dock A has already closed at 7 p.m. In Geneva, the First Class Lounge will close on March 15, the Swiss spokesman said.
