Coronavirus, study: mask reduces the risk of infection by 77%

The 839 controls that did not have a diagnosis of Covid-19 were found thanks to contact tracing mainly of three large clusters in nightclubs, a boxing stadium and a government office building, with interviews on the habits of the use of precautions recommended. The study found that people who had worn the mask for the entire time of contact with a positive case had a 77% lower risk than those who did not.

Keeping at least one meter away reduces the risk by 85%, while frequent hand washing reduces infections by 66%. “This result – the authors write – is consistent with the indications to wear a mask, wash your hands and practice distancing to protect yourself from infection”.
