Coronavirus: still decreasing trends, nearly 300 people in intensive care

The virus’s reproduction rate is 0.83. 60 hospital admissions are reported daily.

IThere was an average of 60.6 hospital admissions per day for coronavirus between June 4 and 10, a decrease of 23% from the previous reporting period. In total, 820 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 302 patients treated in intensive care, according to the latest figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Friday morning.

Between June 1 and 7, 1,173 new coronavirus contaminations were detected on average per day, down 38% compared to the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 1,074,204 infections have been diagnosed.

Over the same period, an average of 10.9 people died per day as a result of the virus, bringing the toll to 25,068 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Nearly 43,400 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 3.3%.

The incidence, which indicates the average number of new daily cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 185.8 over 14 days. The virus’s reproduction rate is 0.83. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down.
