Scandinavian airlines are abolishing face masks regionally
For flights within Scandinavia, mouth and nose protection no longer has to be worn from Monday. The airlines SAS, Norwegian, Widerøe and Flyr agreed to no longer require travelers between Denmark, Norway and Sweden to be protected against infection. “The Norwegian guideline for infection control no longer requires domestic passengers to wear face masks, so this requirement does not apply on board Widerøes flights,” said spokeswoman Silje Brandvoll the Norwegian radio. When flying to other countries abroad, however, mouth and nose protection must still be worn. At Gardermoen Airport, near the Norwegian capital Oslo, the mask requirement was lifted on Friday.

Virologist: Significantly more infections expected in winter
The at best mild increase in corona infections this autumn is expected to accelerate considerably in the next few months. This is forecast by Oliver Keppler, head of virology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. “In the autumn and winter that lie ahead of us, we must assume that the infection rate will worsen significantly. Our lives are shifting inward,” said the scientist.
The virologist does not recommend tightening the corona measures again: “Basically, in this phase of the pandemic we have to try to relax in various areas in order to see what is acceptable and where hygiene measures or tests have to be maintained to ensure security.” “Overall, however, we have a good vaccination quota – that is the central component – many people who have recovered, a high-quality test infrastructure and yes, also a good understanding of the transmission routes of the virus. Of course, situation-related protective measures are also included.” The latter include, for example, hygiene experts refraining from shaking hands.

RKI: Incidence increases for the fifth day in a row
The seven-day incidence in Germany increased for the fifth day in a row. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value as 72.7. The previous day the value was 70.8, a week ago it was 66.1. The health authorities reported 8,682 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.
According to the new information, 17 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. The RKI has counted 4,373,789 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,147,000. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 94,618.

RKI boss expects more infections after the autumn vacation
The head of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Lothar Wieler, assumes an increase in the number of corona infections this autumn. The holiday traffic during the autumn holidays will “again lead to more infectious entries from abroad,” said Wieler to the newspapers of the Funke media group. The “severity and duration of such a wave” is difficult to predict, however.
In the summer, up to 20 percent of the reported corona infections originated abroad, said Wieler. “There will be a significant increase in the numbers again now.” The more life moves indoors in the coming weeks, the greater this increase will be. “How high the wave will be depends primarily on the vaccination rate.”
