Coronavirus. Over 372,000 deaths worldwide

The new coronavirus pandemic has killed at least 372,047 people worldwide since its appearance in December in China, according to a report by the AFP from official sources this Monday at 11:00 GMT.

More than 6,182,860 cases of infection have been officially diagnosed in 196 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 2,574,100 are now considered cured.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others use testing as a priority for tracing, and many poor countries have only limited screening capacity.

178,000 deaths recorded in Europe

The United States, who recorded their first death linked to the coronavirus in early February, are the most affected country in terms of number of deaths and cases, with 104,383 deaths for 1,790,191 cases. At least 444,758 people were declared cured.

After the United States, the most affected countries are United Kingdom with 38,489 deaths in 274,762 cases, theItaly with 33,415 dead (233,019 cases), the Brazil with 29,314 deaths (514,849 cases), and France with 28,802 deaths (188,882 cases).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao), where the epidemic began at the end of December, officially counted a total of 83,017 cases (16 new between Sunday and Monday), including 4,634 deaths (0 new), and 78 307 healings.

Europe totaled Monday at 11 a.m. GMT 178,294 deaths for 2,161,645 cases, the United States and Canada 111,731 deaths (1,881,118 cases), Latin America and the Caribbean 51,561 deaths (1,022,471 cases ), Asia 16,539 deaths (554,648 cases), the Middle East 9,569 deaths (407,336 cases), Africa 4,221 deaths (147,068 cases), and Oceania 132 deaths (8,574 cases) .

This assessment was carried out using data collected by the AFP from the competent national authorities and information from the World Health Organization (WHO).
