Coronavirus monitoring, Iss: “Rt at 1.5. Very serious situation, stay home”

The Rt contagion index, calculated on symptomatic cases, reached 1.5. A figure “significantly above 1, which indicates an overall and widespread very serious situation on the national territory, with the risk of important short-term criticalities in numerous regions and autonomous provinces”. So we read in the weekly report of the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health referring to the week from 12 to last Sunday, October 18.

For the Higher Institute of Health, it is “essential that the population stay at home when possible and reduce all opportunities for contact with people outside their own home that are not strictly necessary. We remind you that it is mandatory to adopt rigorous individual behavior and comply with the hygiene and sanitary measures established regarding the distance and correct use of masks “.

Furthermore, “measures are needed, with priority for the most affected areas, which favor a drastic reduction in physical interactions between people and which can ease the pressure on health services, including restrictions on non-essential activities and restrictions on mobility”. The Regions, for their part, must “carry out a rapid risk analysis and consider a timely increase in the mitigation measures in the most affected areas”.

In light of the current epidemiological situation, with over 19 thousand infections, “it is important to limit the exits from home to what is strictly necessary” explains the director general of Prevention of the Ministry of Health, Giovanni Rezza. “The number of Covid cases is growing considerably and rapidly and hospital admissions and those in intensive care are increasing. Gradually – he adds – the number of outbreaks that are detected at school level and above all extra-curricular activities must be kept under attention”.
