Coronavirus, Mads Gilbert | The chief doctor thinks it is heading for a new closure

The high death toll means that chief physician Mats Gilbert fears that it could lead to a new closure of Norway.

The corona pandemic has so far claimed 1,093 lives in Norway. About 17 percent of the deaths have taken place in the last month, writes Klassekampen.

– I think we can move towards a new possible closure, says Mads Gilbert, who is chief physician, professor emeritus and specialist in anaesthesiology at the University Hospital of Northern Norway.

– The death toll has increased week by week now, which is very thought-provoking. We are behind with the fight against infection. We also do not know how much hidden omicron infection there is in Norway now, says Gilbert.

He also points out that even though Norway has a high degree of vaccination, it does not seem to stop the new variant. The number of inpatients who need intensive care is higher than before and seems to be increasing.

Gilbert believes that one must now think preventively and believes that FHI and the government come up with unclear and contradictory advice. He thinks the advice on Christmas dinners is incomprehensible.

– This disease is transmitted through the air. Indoors in rooms with poor ventilation and poor indoor climate, the risk of infection increases considerably, he emphasizes.
