The corona virus has reached Switzerland. The number of infected people increases every hour. Swiss people run to the pharmacy and stock up on protective masks and disinfectants. Most of the shops are now empty.

Despite the extreme demand, pharmacies and drugstores have so far stuck to the price. But suppliers now demand multiple factors, and the price can also be more expensive for customers. This has already happened on the website.

Three times as expensive as in the pharmacy
Protective masks and disinfectants are offered at a significantly higher price than in shops. A pack of 50 two-layer protective masks for an impressive 95 francs plus shipping is offered on Ebay. The same number and better quality Coldex hygiene masks (three layers) are available in the pharmacy for just CHF 24.
–
Disinfectants are also becoming much more expensive. The 500 ml bottle of Sterillium hand disinfectant could be bought from Amavita pharmacies for CHF 19, but it is no longer in stock. The same bottle can be purchased on Ebay for CHF 52. With shipping, the price is more than three times as high.

Business raid
In Italy, too, business enthusiasts sensed morning air on the Internet: On Tuesday, a user on Ebay offered a liter bottle of the Amuchina disinfectant gel, which is common in Italy, at an exaggerated price of CHF 320.

Italy is now reacting to business dealings with the fear of the corona virus. The Italian financial police confiscated documents and computer data from online retailers Ebay and Amazon, the agency said earlier this week. The Italian consumer association UNC welcomed the investigation. UNC President Massimiliano Cona says: “It is a national shame to speculate on the Italians’ back.” (SIB)
