Coronavirus in the Netherlands: how is the situation evolving in this country without confinement?

The death toll in the Netherlands has risen to 546 after the 112 new deaths reported in the past 24 hours, announced the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

Since the start of the epidemic, 8,603 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, 1,172 more than what was known on Thursday. The institute recalls that the announcement of deceased or hospitalized people does not report actual cases since not all are reported directly to the institute.

The Dutch government notably extended until April 10 the flight ban decided two weeks ago to fight against the coronavirus epidemic. This means that The Hague refuses to accept any flight from countries at risk, said Dutch Minister of Infrastructure Cora van Nieuwenhuizen on Friday.

The flight ban from China, including Hong Kong, Iran, South Korea and Italy should have ended on Friday evening. Spain and Austria were then added to the list until early April. These flight bans include a few exceptions, particularly for those carrying Dutch people or, in some cases, Europeans, trying to return home. People active in healthcare are allowed to land if the Netherlands needs their services. There are also exceptions for patients. As for freight planes, even from these territories, they can land in the Netherlands.
