Coronavirus in Switzerland – +++ Berset urges discipline +++ 1000th death reported in Switzerland

According to Federal Councilor Alain Berset, the risk of a setback in the fight against the corona virus should not be underestimated. The Swiss would have to remain disciplined, especially over the Easter days.

«Otherwise the infections will increase again. There is no shortcut. We have to go all the way, »said Berset in an interview with the publications of the media group CH-Media.

Berset also dealt with the internationally controversial question of whether a mask requirement to prevent infections with the corona virus makes sense or not. Of course, everyone can wear a mask if they want to.

Huge progress

In the current phase it is of little use to healthy people to wear a mask. But scientific knowledge about the virus has made tremendous progress. This also influences the question of whether and when masks could be useful.

“I do not rule out that we recommend a mask with the loosening in certain situations,” said Berset. The Federal Council is working on a possible relaxation plan on Easter and the coming days, which will include protective measures.

Immunity tests

With a view to the future, testing the immunity of people is also important. Serological tests are necessary to know how strongly the Swiss population is immunized. There are currently over 24,000 people who tested positive.

In fact, the number of people who had the virus was significantly higher. An international study estimated it to be between 200,000 and 250,000. “We can now slow down the spread of the virus and later prevent individual diseases from causing further infections,” said the Federal Council.

Until there is a vaccine, the disease will not go away. According to current knowledge, it continues to spread until around two thirds of the population is immune. That is about 6 million people in Switzerland. Switzerland is still a long way from that.
